Designer Showhouse Sneak Peek

We talk a lot about the things that can (and do) go wrong on any interior design or home furnishing project. And that is because we have experienced many of them, while also building in processes that help us to avoid them for our clients. But every now and then, we hit a series of problems. This happened on some important pieces that we ordered for the Denver Life 2024 Designer Showhouse

Denver Life Interior Designer Showhouse 2024

We designed a bedroom for this showhouse that includes a custom designed headboard with fabric from two different vendors. While we had all of our information correct on the order form, things still went wrong.

One of the fabrics was shipped to the wrong vendor. Then they took their sweet time in resending fabric to the correct vendor. At this point, it backed up our headboards by several weeks.

Three of the Core Values at Beautiful Habitat are Resourcefulness/Problem Solving, Relationships and Accountability. So I set to work looking for a solution. Working with our upholstery vendor, we were able to move the headboards to a rush status.  Next, we notified the shipping company that we had a rush order and a hard deadline to get these.

All seemed to be on track. Then the upholstery company lost power for a full day and the trickle down was that we missed that week’s truck heading west. Yikes! But we still had some time.

The headboards were complete and set for the next shipment. Our upholstery company is in North Carolina. And hurricane Helene hit. By sheer willpower and grit, the driver made his way out of North Carolina through any roads he could find. But as you can understand, he was delayed by several days.

Thankfully, using our core value of Relationships, our account manager with the shipping company put us in direct contact with the driver, so I could arrange to meet him and get the headboards ASAP.

Here I am in a parking lot, stalking his truck.

The real life of an Interior Designer

In the end, we got the headboards JUST in time for the photos. Quite literally – they were photographing the main floor when we get these installed in the bedroom. We had to overcome several obstacles to get there – and this is what we would do for each of our clients as well!
